CinemaNow, one of the largest distributors of movies online and Funai, the manufacturer of televisions from names such as Philips, Magnavox, and Emerson will be working together to help bring down the prices of internet connected HDTVs.
It looks like the two companies may be onto something too. Funai typically sells their televisions through Walmart stores which would provide the distribution needed to help internet connected HDTVs go mainstream. The big question comes down to price. While people don’t mind paying $3.99 for an on-demand movie the question remains if they’ll do this through their television when it’s so easy to do so through your cable company.
There is no question if these televisions will be available in time for the holidays, but there’s a good chance that they will be available for the forth quarter.
